I. Finding Books, Journals, and other
Environmental Economic Literature
Princeton University Library consists of many libraries both on and off campus.
While the largest number of materials related to environmental economics are located
in Firestone Library, other materials will be found in various libraries. The
primary tool for locating if Princeton owns a particular book or subscribes to
a journal is through the Main Catalog.
Search
tips can be found by going to the Main Catalog. Once you locate a
particular
title, it is important to note the location
and the call number. Some of the locations you will encounter most often are:
Not all materials are found in the Main Catalog. Princeton receives the
publications
of many governmental bodies including the United States
Government, the United
Nations, the European
Union, and the state of New Jersey.
Each of these has their own catalog. Many government documents are
now appearing in the Main Catalog, but for a complete picture also
consult the individual documents catalogs.
There are also large historic collections that are uncataloged so always ask a
librarian for help on your topic. If Princeton does not own an item, Interlibrary
Services can borrow the book or obtain a copy of the article for you. If the
item is a book and it is checked out or not owned by Princeton, try Borrow
Direct first. It is a very fast way of getting books if owned by Brown, Columbia,
Cornell, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, or Yale.
While the Main Catalog will usually tell you if Princeton owns a
particular
book, Worldcat will show you what other libraries own.

II. Working Papers and
Technical Reports
For the most recent research in environmental economics, use working papers. Working
papers come in two forms (1) items emanating from Universities intended to be
later published in journals, books, or conference proceedings and (2) works intended
primarily for the members of an organization such as those coming from governmental
bodies such as the World Bank. A listing of Princeton's holdings along with sources
that index working papers can be found at http://firestone.princeton.edu/econlib/workingpapers.html.
Many government issued technical reports from 1964+ are available through
NTIS.
