Ib. ANNUAL BIBLIOGRAPHIES & PERIODICAL INDEXES

Bibliographie linguistique de l'annee. Utrecht: Spectrum, 1948-.
(DR) Z7001.xB5
Volume 1 covered 1939-1947. Annual thereafter. International in scope. Lists books and articles and cites book reviews. Arranged in broad subject categories. Slower to appear by about a year than the MLA or BLL.

For coverage of research since 1981, the MLA Bibliography will probably be the most useful of these three bibliographies, because of its subject index and broad scope. The Bibliographie Linguistique is particularly strong in research on East European and Asian languages. Before 1969 the Bibliographie Linguistique is more complete than the MLA.

Bibliographie Linguistischer Literatur (BLL). Frankfurt am Main: V. Klostermann, 1979-.
(DR) Oversize z7003.xB5q
Vol. 1 covered 1971-1975. Annual thereafter. Lists books and articles on general and theoretical linguistics and on English and the Germanic and Romance languages. Detailed subject arrangement with an additional subject index.

Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest Digital Dissertations), 1861-; Princeton, 1997- in full text via.pdf.
Includes citations for dissertations ranging from 1861 to those accepted last semester; those published from 1980 forward include 350-word abstracts. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Titles represent authors from North America and Europe, with over a million titles in full text from 1997 forward.

Humanities Full Text, 1994-present.
Electronic version of the Humanities Index. It indexes selected journals in the humanities, including, linguistics, history, and philosophy.

Humanities Index. New York: H.W. Wilson, 1975-.
(DR) Z6941.xH8
Quarterly, with annual cumulations. Subject and author index to major English-language journals in the humanities, including linguistics. Includes a separate section for book reviews. A companion set, Social Sciences Index (SXF) (SW) Z7161.xS6, lists studies related to linguistics from the major journals in anthropology, psychology and sociology.

Linguistics: The Cambridge Survey. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1988. 4 vols.
(F) P121.L567 1988
Surveys research results and current work in all branches of linguistics. A very extensive older survey was Current Trends in Linguistics, The Hague: Mouton, 1963-1976. 14 volumes in 21. (F) (Gest) (Annex) 2000.279

LLBA: Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts. New York: Appleton-Century-Crofts, 1967-.
(DR) Z7001.L15 and Electronic Access
Four issues per year. Emphasizes language learning and teaching, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics. Formerly Language and Language Behavior Abstracts.

Modern Language Association of America. MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles on the Modern Languages and Literatures. 9 vols. New York: Modern Language Association of America, 1921-. The Web version covers the years beginning with 1963-.
Ceased in paper format. Back issues (1921-1999) of the print publication are located:
(Annex) Z6941.xM6.
Electronic Resource: MLA International Bibliography.
Annual. Since 1969 this has had a separate, extensive section on linguistics ("volume" III in Book One of the print version), which lists books and articles in broad subject categories. Since 1981 it has also had a detailed subject index (in Book Two of the print version), and can be searched through either the print version or the Web. It provides minimal annotations. Indexes over 3,000 journals and series. Also covers relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies. Areas include literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. When begun in 1921 it covered writings by Americans on the literatures of various countries. By 1963 it listed books and articles in English and in other West-European languages and in some East-European languages, and since 1981 it aims to be all-inclusive. Now it covers modern languages and literatures of the world, as well as literary criticism and theory; comparative and historical linguistics; folklore; and professional topics.
A companion to the MLA International Bibliography is Modern Language Association of America. MLA Directory of Periodicals - A Guide to Journals and Series in Languages and Literatures. New York: Modern Language Association of America, 1978/79- located in (DR) Z6941.xM6. It covers journals and series indexed by the MLA International Bibliography. Gives editorial description, subscription and submission information. Indexes subjects, sponsoring organizations, editorial staff, languages published
.

Social Sciences Citation Index, 1973-.
(Annex) Z7161.S65 and Electronic Access Covers more than 1000 journals, including a number in linguistics and related fields. In 3 parts: I, Source Index, an author list of recent articles; II, Permuterm Subject Index to names and other key-words actually appearing in the titles of the articles from the Source Index; and III, Citation Index, listing authors of the books and articles which have been cited in the notes and bibliographies of the articles from the Source Index. [Companion to Arts and Humanities Citation Index, 1976-. Both the SSCI and the AHCI are now part of the Web of Science database]. The online version allows you to choose between an "Easy Search" for Topic, Person, or Address and a "Full Search" in order to locate where an author has been cited.
