bullet International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (PU only)
Compiled by the British Library of Political & Economic Science of the London School of Economics & Political Science, this database provides bibliographic information from an international selection of publications (including over 2,600 journals) in the fields of economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology. Indexing covers material published from 1951 to present.

International Political Science Abstracts (PU only)
Provides abstracts in English or French to articles selected from over 1,000 international journals. Topics covered include political science method and theory, political thinkers and ideas, governmental and administrative institutions, political process, international relations, and national and area studies. Index covers material published from 1989 to present.

bullet PAIS International (PU only)
This database by the Public Affairs Information Service provides citations to articles, books, reports, and select government documents on public and foreign policy issues from 1972 forward. PAIS is generally considered to be a comprehensive index to policy literature. The print version of PAIS goes back to 1915, and is located in the Social Science Reference Center Index Shelves under call number 0487.739.

bullet Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (PU only)
Provides citations, abstracts, and indexing of the international serials literature in political science, including international relations, law and public policy. Indexing covers material from 1975 to present. Also provides references to reliable web resources.

bullet Alternative Press Index (PU only)
This international and interdisciplinary database indexes journals covering cultural, economic, political and social change in the humanities and social sciences. Covers nearly 300 alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines with selected abstracts from research journals from 1991 to present.

bullet Alt-Press Watch (PU only)
Interdisciplinary full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press. Indexes over 170 titles from 1970 to present, providing viewpoints and perspectives that complement and challenge the coverage of the mainstream media.

bullet America: History and Life (PU only)
This database is a comprehensive bibliography of articles published from 1955 to present on the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistory to today.

bullet Ethnic NewsWatch (PU only)
Provides full text access to news, culture, and history from over 240 publications of ethnic, minority and native press from 1960 to present offering additional viewpoints from those proffered by the mainstream press.

bullet OmniFile Full Text Mega (PU only)
OmniFile is a multi-disciplinary database that provides indexing, abstracts, and select full text of articles in a wide variety of areas, including art, education, the humanities, the social sciences, science and technology, popular periodicals, business, legal periodicals, and library and information science. Indexing begins in 1982, abstracts in 1984, and full-text coverage in 1994.

bullet Policyfile (PU only)
Provides indexing and abstracts of research publications addressing the complete range of public policy research. PolicyFile draws its content from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research organizations, and trade publishers. The database consists of over 50,000 abstracts dating from 1990 to present, with some full text where available and links to organizational home pages.

bullet Social Science Citations Index (PU only)
Interdisciplinary index to journals and collected volumes in the social and behavioral sciences. Provides access by author, citation and subject for materials published from 1956 to present. Note: This database is very useful for tracing the chain of citations in social science literature. Use SSCI to find references to articles that were cited in a given article, as well as other articles that cite that article.

bullet Sociological Abstracts (PU only)
Provides access to the world's literature in sociology and related disciplines, both theoretical and applied. The database includes abstracts of journal articles selected from over 2,500 journals, as well as books, conference papers, dissertations, and book reviews. Coverage of this database goes back to 1963.

Provides full text access to news from across the U.S. and around the world. Coverage of most newspapers goes back to the mid 1980s, but varies widely. Also provides access to business, legal, and medical journals, as well as corporate financial information.

Database from Dow Jones & Reuters that provides full text access to newspapers and wires.

bullet ProQuest Newspapers (PU only)
Provides indexing and full text of the Wall Street Journal (1984- ) and Barron's (1988- ), and abstracts only of the New York Times and USA Today (1989- ). After you click on the link above, pull down the database menu and select "News- ProQuest Newspapers" to search these titles.

bullet New York Times (ProQuest Historical Newspapers) (PU only)
Provides retrospective coverage of the New York Times going back to the first issue (1851-2001) in full text. Search by keywords and date.

bullet Wall Street Journal (ProQuest Historical Newspapers) (PU only)
Provides retrospective coverage of the Wall Street Journal going back to the first issue (1889-1986) in full text. Search by keywords and date.

Provides retrospective coverage of the Washington Post going back to the first issue (1877-1987) in full text. Search by keywords and date.

bullet Television News Archive (PU only)
The Television News Archive collection at Vanderbilt University is the world's most extensive and complete archive of television news. The collection holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC (1968- ), and CNN (1995- ), and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989. Access to TV-NewsSearch is free, but requires registration. Individuals may make requests for video tape loans for reference, study, classroom instruction, and research for a fee.

Arranged by state, each entry gives post-World War II state-wide votes for President, Governor and Senator, as well as Congressional district data for recent Congressional elections. Also includes county level figures for the most recent elections.

bullet Congressional Universe (PU only)
Also called Lexis-Nexis Congressional. An extensive database that indexes publications of the U.S. Congress such as hearings, committee reports, documents and prints. Coverage in this database goes back to 1789 and much of the material is available in microfiche with some in paper. This is an essential tool for doing legislative history research.

Located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the ICPSR provides member colleges and universities with access to an extensive data archive, as well as training facilities for social scientists conducting quantitative analysis. Search their data holdings by keyword or browse by thematic categories.

bullet Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe / Roper Center (PU only)
This component allows you to search a file maintained by the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, which contains survey data going back to 1935 from sources such as Gallup, Harris, Roper, ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal. Click on Reference, then click on Polls & Surveys.

bullet Polling The Nations (PU only)
This database consists of polls taken on a variety of subjects all over the world. It contains more than 14,000 surveys conducted by more than 700 polling organizations in the United States and more than 80 other countries from 1986 to the present. Each record provides one poll question and the responses. Search by subject, publication year, and universe of respondents. Other information provided includes source name and contact information, sample size and notes on the sample population.

bullet Statistical Universe (PU only)
Provides indexing and abstracts to federal, state, and international statistical publications as well as selected business and professional publications containing statistics. Many statistical tables are available in full text, and direct links to many web-accessible statistical sources are also provided. Statistical Universe is the web equivalent of the print American Statistics Index, Statistical Reference Index, and Index to International Statistics; and provides indexing for the corresponding ASI, SRI and IIS microfiche sets located on the C-Floor of Firestone.
