newspapers and magazines with selected abstracts from research journals
from 1991-present. - America: History & Life
Indexes books and journal articles on the history of the United States
and Canada from prehistory to the present. Covers works published 1954-present.
This resource can be useful for finding articles that discuss U.S. relations
with, and influences on the countries in question. - CIAO - Columbia International Affairs Online
CIAO publishes online a wide range of scholarship from 1991 onward that
includes working papers from university research institutes, NGO occasional
papers, foundation-funded research projects, conference proceedings,
books, journals, and policy briefs.

Criminal Justice Abstracts
Prepared in co-operation with the Don M. Gottfredson Library of Criminal
Justice at Rutgers University Law Library, Criminal Justice Abstracts
provides indexing and abstracts of international journal articles, books,
and reports on a wide range of topics in criminal justice. Topics covered
include crime trends, crime prevention and deterrence, juvenile
delinquency and justice, police, courts, punishment and sentencing.
Coverage goes back to 1968.
- EconLit
Provides citations and selected abstracts of journal articles, books,
dissertations, working papers, conference proceedings and book reviews
dating back to 1969. Covers topics including regional and international
economics, urban economics, economic development, fiscal and monetary
theory, business and public finance. - Ethnic NewsWatch
Ethnic NewsWatch is an interdisciplinary, bilingual (English
and Spanish), full-text database of the newspapers, magazines
and journals of the ethnic, minority, and native press. This
database is very helpful for identifying literature from the
point of view of various racial and ethnic groups. Covers
materials published 1960 to the present.
- Homeland Security Digital Library
The Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) is a compendium
of materials available for scholarly research in the area of
homeland security. The HSDL collection provides quick access
to important U.S. policy documents, presidential directives,
and national strategy documents as well as specialized
resources such as theses and reports from various
universities, organizations, and local and state agencies.
The HSDL is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security's National Preparedness Directorate, FEMA, and the
Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and
Security. - Jane's Online
Founded in 1898, Jane's Information Group provides a host of information
products and consultancy services including technical and market information
on military, law enforcement, and transportation equipment; country-by-country
threat assessments; and news analysis. When using Jane's, the easiest
approach is to go directly to the sources Princeton subscribes to by
clicking on the My Account button. Princeton subscribes only
to the following Jane's Online products: All the World's Aircraft,
Armour & Artillery, Fighting Ships, World Defence
Industry, Defense Magazine Library, and IntelWeb.

This database is a guide to the diverse literature of the left,
with an emphasis on political, economic, social, and cultural

- Military Education Research Library Network (MERLN)

Hosted by the National Defense University, MERLN is a comprehensive
Web site devoted to international military education outreach. It
represents a consortium of military education research libraries
(including U.S. military education libraries, Department of Defense
regional center libraries, and their international counterparts)
that work together to provide access to a variety of resources.
The MERLN page provides links to lots of online publications, as
well as the NDU Library's Military Policy Awareness Links (MiPALs)-
a series of country and issue-based online bibliographies.
Use MERLN's Public Search to locate a wealth of literature relevant
to politics, the military, national security, terrorism, homeland
security, and many other related areas. Be sure to consult the Main Catalog first
to determine if Princeton holds any of the titles listed in MERLN.
You may submit interlibrary loan requests for materials we do not
have (just cut and paste the necessary information into the ILL

This is not an online database, but a relevant index for the topic of
international conflict resolution published six times a year by the
Peace Research Institute- Dundas (in Ontario, Canada). It provides indexing
and abstracts for books, journal articles, government publications,
scholarly papers, major speeches and research studies concerning peace
studies and international relations. Each issue has an author and subject
index, and the last issue of each year has an annual cumulative index. - Policyfile
Provides indexing and abstracts of research publications addressing
the complete range of public policy research. PolicyFile draws its content
from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research
organizations, and trade publishers. The database consists of over 50,000
abstracts dating from 1990 to present, with some full-text where available
and links to organizational home pages. - Social Sciences Citation Index
Multidisciplinary index to more than 1,725 journals in the social and
behavioral sciences. This database covers works published 1956-present,
and is very useful for tracing the chain of citations in social science
literature. Use SSCI to find references to articles that were cited in
a given article, as well as other articles that cite that article. - Sociological Abstracts
Indexing and abstracting of the world's literature in sociology and
related disciplines, both theoretical and applied. Covers 2,500 journals,

GalleryWatch provides full-text access to Congressional Research Service reports and

This is an extensive database that indexes the publications of the U.S.
Congress such as hearings, committee reports, documents, prints, and Congressional Research Service reports.
Coverage in this database goes back to 1789 and much of the material
is available online in full text with even more available in microfiche at Firestone (ask for help to find these).

National Technical Information Service
The NTIS database provides an index to U.S. government-sponsored research
and worldwide scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related
information. NTIS is the central source for the sale of unclassified and
publicly available information from research reports, journal articles,
data files, computer programs and audio visual products from Federal
sources. Information is also available from international government
departments and other international organizations including those from
Canada, Japan, the former Soviet Union, Western and Eastern European
countries. Covers back to 1964.
- C-SPAN

The primary mission of the C-SPAN is to provide live gavel-to-gavel
coverage of both houses of Congress. In addition, when Congress is
not meeting C-SPAN provides coverage of a variety of public affairs
events. Their site provides access to a wealth of resources relating
to the debate over national security, U.S. intelligence, and civil
liberty. Also provides transcripts and archived video coverage. The
Video Collection in East Pyne also holds many videos from C-SPAN and
other sources relevant to these topics.

special news-related programming; and ABC's Nightline

- Foreign Broadcast Information Service Electronic Index
Provides indexing to the Daily Reports of the CIA's Foreign Broadcast
Information Service. These reports include translated broadcasts, news
agency transmissions, newspapers, periodicals, and government statements
from nations around the world. Search by keyword, region and date.
This index only covers reports from 1975-1996, which are mostly available
in microfiche with some in paper. Ask for help locating these reports
at the Social Science Reference Center. For earlier material, contact me.

- iPOLL Databank
Based on the files of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research,
this database is a comprehensive, up-to-date source for U.S.
nationwide public opinion. It is a full-text retrieval system
updated daily and organized at the question-level, providing
tools to sift through nearly a half million questions asked on
national public opinion surveys since 1935. A one-time free registration is
required to use this database.
- Polling Report

Polling Report bills itself as an independent, nonpartisan
resource on trends in American public opinion. Their Web site
provides selected questions and summaries of responses taken
from nationwide polls conducted by major pollsters, including
Gallup, Harris, CNN/USA Today, Fox News, and others. Data and
state-level surveys are available only to subscribers, but
there are lots of alternatives out there, so I strongly
recommend you talk to a librarian before subscribing!
- Polling the Nations
Polling the Nations is a compilation of public opinion surveys
conducted in the United States and more than 80 other countries.
Each record includes the question asked and the responses given,
the polling organization responsible for the work, the date the
information was released, the sample size, and the groups or
areas included in the interview.

Studies has been to produce high quality data on
voting, public opinion, and political participation that

work through pilot studies in odd-numbered years. The
