International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (PU only)
Compiled by the British
Library of Political & Economic Science of the London School of
Economics & Political Science, this database provides bibliographic
information from an international selection of publications (including
over 2,600 journals) in the fields of economics, political science,
sociology, and anthropology. Indexing covers material published from
1951 to present.
International Political Science Abstracts (PU only)
Provides abstracts in
English or French to articles selected from over 1,000 international
journals. Topics covered include political science method and theory,
political thinkers and ideas, governmental and administrative
institutions, political process, international relations, and national
and area studies. Index covers material published from 1989 to present.
PAIS International (PU only)
This database by the
Public Affairs Information Service provides citations
to articles, books, reports, and select government documents on public
and foreign policy issues from 1972 forward. PAIS is generally
considered to be a comprehensive index to policy literature. The print
version of PAIS goes back to 1915, and is located in the Social Science
Reference Center Index Shelves under call number
0487.739.
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (PU only)
Provides citations,
abstracts, and indexing of the international serials literature in
political science, including international relations, law and public
policy. Indexing covers material from 1975 to present. Also provides
references to reliable web resources.
Women's Studies Databases:
Contemporary Women's Issues (PU only)
CWI provides
full-text access to journals, newsletters, reports, pamphlets,
bibliographies, fact sheets, and other material on a broad array of
women and gender-related issues around the world published from 1992 to
present. Covers about 1,900 sources, including more than 100 journals,
all in English, in the areas of sociology,
psychology, health, education, business administration and political
science.
GenderWatch (PU only)
GenderWatch
is a
repository of unique and diverse
publications
that
focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With
archival material dating back to 1970, it provides an important
historical perspective on the evolution of both the
women's movement and major changes in gender roles.
ViVa Bibliography of Women's History (PU only)
An online bibliography of women's
history in historical and women's studies journals with more than 7,500
bibliographic records describing articles published between 1975 and
2003.
Women in
Politics Bibliographical Database
Developed with the contribution of the
United Nations Development Programme, this database from the
Interparliamentary Union is tracks new books and articles produced
throughout the world on the subject of women in politics. It covers
titles representing international, regional, country-by-country as well
as thematic perspectives.

Hispanic American Periodicals Index (PU only)
Provides

Historical Abstracts (PU only)
This database has long
been recognized as the leading bibliography providing unmatched
coverage of world history (excluding North America) dealing with time
periods from 1450 to the present. It covers approximately 2,000
journals, as well as books and dissertations published worldwide since
the mid 1950s in history and related areas,
including anthropology, genealogy, multicultural studies, political
science, and sociology.

NCJRS is a federally funded resource offering
justice and substance abuse information to support research, policy,
and program development worldwide. The site hosts one of the largest
criminal and juvenile justice libraries and databases in the world,
with holdings from the early 1970s to the present, containing more than
180,000 publications, reports, articles, and audiovisual products from
the United States and around the world. These resources include
statistics, research findings, program descriptions, congressional
hearing transcripts, and training materials.
Social Science Citations Index (PU only)
Interdisciplinary
index
to journals and collected volumes in the social and behavioral
sciences. Provides access by author, citation and subject for materials published from 1956 to present.
Note:
This database is very useful
for tracing the chain of citations in social science literature. Use
SSCI to find references to articles that were cited in a given article,
as well as other articles that cite that article.
Sociological Abstracts (PU only)
Provides access to the
world's literature in sociology and related disciplines, both
theoretical and applied. The database includes abstracts of journal
articles selected from over 2,500 journals, as well as books,
conference papers, dissertations, and book reviews. Coverage of this
database goes back to 1963.
Television News Archive (PU only)
The Television News Archive collection
at Vanderbilt University is the world's most extensive and complete
archive of television news. The collection holds more than 30,000
individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national
broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC (1968- ), and CNN (1995- ), and more
than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's
Nightline since 1989. Access to TV-NewsSearch is free, but requires
registration. Individuals may make requests for video tape loans for
reference, study, classroom instruction, and research for a fee.

Provides indexing and
abstracts to federal, state, and international statistical publications
as well as selected business and professional publications containing
statistics. Many statistical tables are available in full text, and
direct links to many web-accessible statistical sources are also
provided. Statistical Universe
is the web equivalent of the print American
Statistics Index, Statistical
Reference Index, and Index to
International Statistics; and provides indexing for the
corresponding ASI, SRI and IIS microfiche sets located on the C-Floor
of Firestone.
